KIDS AND THE FUN THEY CAN BRING!

I know we all want to give our kids an amazing day to remember, but sometimes its easier said than done. Most parents assume that their kids want a party at a big expensive place, but in all reality our kids really just want to have a good time. So you start looking around trying to find the perfect party and 99% of the time you end up paying for way more than you get and it last for an hour or two then your in a rush to get everyone out of the place so you don't get charged more.  It really turns out to be more of a hassle than its worth. Suprisingly there is an alternative to those parties that "everyone" is doing. With just a little time you can create a party that everyone enjoys. Another good thing is you can customize it any way you want so it works for you and your family. I'll admitt it does take effort but just think of the money you'll save and the memories you'll create! Also when everyone is asking "How did you do that", you'll feel awesome inside! Either way lets getr started!!

 Tea Party

This party is good for little girls of all ages. I think it would even be fun for older gils with a few tweaks here and there.

The first thing to do is probably start collecting items you'll need. Your going to need old dresses, suits, high heels, boas, clip on earrings, other jewelry  frilly hats, lipstick, blush,  and ties.  You can find that stuff really cheap at the thrift stores and garage sales, and its good for having after the party.

The next thing you need to get will be the tea cups and other tea party items. I found alot of antique looking items at the thrift stores on half price day. You will need to get a few fancy little decorations for decorating.

As far as the food goes I did alot of junk!! I took store bought cherries and blue berries and made pies. Take the pie crust and cookie cutters and cut out hearts or something girlie sprinkle withe colored sugar . place shapes on top of the pie for a "pretty pie". Take preztzel rods and dip two inches in white chocolate and cover with pretty sprinkles. Make sugar cookies using colored sprinkles. For the cake we used two bowl shaped baikng pans , but bundt pans would work as well, stack them on top of each other to make the pot shape(make sure you put a layer of icing between the two cakes!), you can use marzapan for the handle but i used pie crust leftovers, now you just ice it and decorate it to your theme. Make cupcakes and use preztels for handles to make them resemble cups! Use already mixed kool-aid for the tea , I used a couple different flavors, allow the kids to mix their own drinks. Make sure you get an actual tea pot for the party.

I had all the kids dress up and then we had the tea party. Even alot of the adults got into dressing up. When your getting everything together get a few flower vases or some other container to display the pretzel rods in. Another tip is presentation, its all about the way you present it we set the table up with a pink table cloth, and we used real glass and all antique looking stuff just to set the theme off. Like I said the thrift store has effverything cheap and half price day is even better. I also purchased alot of hats and boas from the $1 Store so the kids could take them home with them.

 Cowboy Party

We started out by finding cowboy hats, we tried to find as amny as we could so everyone could have one. We built o rock pit to make a fire in. We took some old fence polls and made a place to hang a pot from. We cooked some chili in the house and then took it outside and hung it over the fire. We found some tin plates at a discount store we served the chili in. After that we put apple cider in a pot and put it over the fire as well.

We made a bull out of a chair , cardboard and a sheet. We also had the kids collect eggs in old wire baskets(not hard  boiled either). We hid the eggs just like you would on Easter. We took pictures on the bull, which as I said, was made out of a chair! We also played rope the bull with some old rope. You can also find some thick rubber gloves and fill them with milk and have the kids fill up vases with milk but that requires a little rigging up.

You can make a cowboy hat shaped cake, all you do is cut out the shape in a square cake.

       Candyland Party

Okay th efirst thing you do is collect some cardboard, you will need a really big box like a refrigerator box and alot of small boxes, they should be able to make 12 by 12inch squares, paint, candy, party favors, baggies.

The first thing you will do is make the castle. I used a refrigerator box and it worked well. You will simply cut out a square then leave a square to resemble a castle, you can also cut out windows if you would like.

Carnival Party

First you are going to need to gather your supplies. You'll need tokens(I used red white and blue tokens),hot dog holders, waffle ice cream cones, cotton candy, nancho holders, lemonade flavored kool-aid, fresh lemons, rotel, Velvetta cheese, tortilla chips, I went generic on those(you want to save some money somewhere and nobody really cares!),tickets, prizes, which I also ordered from Oriental Trading, they have a 50 piece prize pack for fifteen dollars, depending on the age you can also use fake money which we did and it is fun to use, cake and ice cream, I used cupcakes and push pops but its up to you there, hot dog buns, plain paper, clear plastic cups. I found most of my stuff at my local discount stores like Cargo Largo and Dirty Don's. Swap and Shop is also great place to find place to find all those things as well, you should be able to find those type of stores in you area as well.

With this party you need to figure out how many games or activities you'd like to have because there are so many things you can do with this party. I did five actual games. Ring toss, balloon pop, target, rubber duck game, and the photo stop. For the ring toss we purchased one from Oriental Trading, but you could simply make one homemade, for balloon pop we took a playpen(ours didn't have a bottom but which ever will work) blew up balloons and put tokens in them, put different ones in each one and none in some allow the kids too jump on them and try to pop them, give them a certain time limit to do so. For target we one of those velcro ball games, the rubber duck game was a small pool with water in it and rubber ducks with the token value written on the bottom the kids pick one. For the photo stop I painted a piece of plywood, I painted Dash and Violet from "The Incredibles", but you can do whatever is easiest or whatever your child is in to. You cut a hole for the heads, and then you have a cool picture!

For the food you just boil the hot dogs, make Velvetta& Rotel dip, I would make it in the crock pot, don't make it until the kids order it, and use the cones for cotton candy holders, use plastic clear cups to serve lemonade garnish with lemon wedges or slices. You can make your signs on rectangle pices of paper, you'll put things like you'd see at a carnival " Fresh Sqeezed Lemonade " and add the price if your using the play money. You can get creative as you want.

We started off by giving the kids their money then they had to buy tickets. Next they were allowed to play the games, after the games were done they went to the concession stand, we use a table but you can do whatever, after te concession stand they went to the prize stand, we used a book shelf for the prize stand, you also need to make differrent catogories, like big, medium, and small prizes. Next cake and ice cream. Now everybody GET OUT, just kidding but you'll probably be over it!

There are so many different things you can do depending on your budget and how long you want it to last. You can dress up like a clown, you can have face painting, we also did balloon animals, you can but a little pack that has instruction on how to make about 10 different things. Oriental Trading has alot of new things you can order now, they didn't have alot of the things they have now 3 years ago when we did the party. Like I said its your party and your budget.
